William Soer died from unspecified causes on 28th October, 1914, after having been taken back to a hospital on the coast.  It is not known if he died from wounds or from illness, both of which took their toll of the men on the Western Front. He was serving with the 2nd Essex battalion of 12 Brigade, 4th Division which had arrived in France at the beginning of the war.
